During the early stages of his career, he went by the name Spicy but later changed it to Reekado Banks. Reekado is a Spanish name meaning ruler of kings while Banks means being rich and content musically.

His brother Temi paved the way for him musically by submitting some of his music to Mavin records through an online music search. He managed to defeat over 5, contestants and was eventually signed into the label. He was unveiled together with Di'ja and Korede Bello. Under the label, he made a name as a top Nigerian singer thanks to his amazing hits.
