It also seems to me that he was somehow able to use literally ANYTHING thrown at him to his advantage internally, to learn from and overcome whatever came against him. I was thinking there must be also an amazing intelligence and vast experience of his Being behind, that was able to guide him in such a clear and even strategic way.
